I.    TRINITY

In the beginning God said ... and it was.  One of the things God said, was "Let us make man in
our image."  Let "us" ... plural.  God the Father existed ... and so did God the Son and God the
Holy Spirit.

Trinity means three parts, or three-fold.  Three in one.  I used to have trouble with this concept,
until I took an example from this fleshly life and compared it with the spirit realm.  The example I
took in this instance, was water.  Water as it comes out of a faucet, is liquid.  Frozen water is
solid.  Heated water is steam.  Three different forms, each with a different purpose or job to do,
yet all one in the same chemical composition.  Three in one.  Another example:  an egg ... three
different parts, yet one egg.

The Trinity is the same way ... three different Persons, each with a different job to do, but
functioning and acting together as one Godhead.  They are one in will and in purpose.  They
cannot contradict each other.  The word "trinity" is not used in the Bible, but the principle is
spoken of throughout the whole Bible.

We have already learned about Jesus in the first lesson.  Therefore, this lesson will
concentrate on God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.
II.     GOD THE FATHER

WHO HE IS:

God the Father is the Creator.  He lives in Heaven.  God the Father has
adopted as His children all who have accepted Jesus Christ as their
Savior ... He is the Father of the fatherless.  God is the God of both the
Jews and the Gentiles alike.  And even more than our fleshly fathers,
Father God is the Giver of good gifts.

NAMES OF GOD:

Almighty God
Eternal God
Holy One of Israel
I AM ("I AM" ... present tense.  He was, is, and always will be!)
Jehovah
Jehovah-Jireh (The Lord will provide)
Jehovah-Nissi (The Lord, my Banner)
Jehovah-Shalom (The Lord send peace)
Jehovah-Shammah (The Lord is there)
Jehovah-Tsidkenu (The Lord, our Righteousness)
Living God
Most High
Heavenly Father
III.     GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT

WHAT HE DOES:

The Holy Spirit is the Power behind creation.  God the Father spoke His will.  God spoke ... and
the Word was Jesus.  And the Holy Spirit moved across the face of the earth to accomplish what
God had spoken into existence.  The Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus.  He is the One who causes
us to be drawn to Jesus, and through Him we come to know Jesus.

Jesus cast out demons by the power of the Holy Spirit.  It was the Holy Spirit who raised Jesus
from the dead.  And the Holy Spirit spoke to the hearts of men, and inspired the writing of the
Scriptures.

THE HOLY SPIRIT'S WORK IN US:

It was not until Jesus had ascended through the clouds to live in Heaven forever, that the Holy
Spirit came to live within us.  He now dwells in us who have accepted Jesus Christ as our
Savior.  It is the Holy Spirit who gives us life.  We function by His power.

The Holy Spirit is our Comforter.  He helps us pray.  He is our Teacher.  He guides us into all
truth, and helps us to remember.  It is through the Holy Spirit that we can have full assurance of
our salvation.  And it is the Holy Spirit who causes us to be Godly people, and makes us able
ministers.

NAMES OF THE HOLY SPIRIT:

Comforter
Holy Spirit
Spirit of Adoption
Spirit of Christ
Spirit of Counsel, Might, Wisdom and Understanding
Spirit of Glory
Spirit of God
Spirit of Grace
Spirit of Holiness
Spirit of Life
Spirit of Truth
Helper

So then ... God the Father is the Originator.  God the Son, Jesus Christ, is the Expression of the
Father.  And God the Holy Spirit is the Empowerment of the will of the Father
IV.      CREATED IN HIS IMAGE

The Word of the Lord tells us that we are created in the image of God.  In His image does not
mean "looks."  What it means is that God is a tri-part being ... and so is man.  We ARE spirit ...
we HAVE a soul ... and we LIVE IN a body.  Three parts, but one God.  Three parts, but one
human being.
